The mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitación Martínez, and the general director of Trade, Consumption and Administrative Simplification, Francisco Abril, today visited the company Salazones Garre SL, located in the municipality and that for 30 years has handcrafted fish salted .
Together with the manager of the company, Ana Garre, they have known the process of elaboration, packaging and preservation of products such as mullet roe, tuna or ling, tuna mojama;
the beautiful salty;
smoked varieties such as swordfish, cod or tuna, or products such as garum, a derivative of the traditional Roman recipe, made from fish roe and olive oil.
Garazones Garre was born as a family business in 1983 and currently bills around 5 million euros a year and maintains 25 direct jobs in San Pedro del Pinatar.
In addition, it exports these products, in which it maintains the artisan production, to destinations like USA, Japan, Israel and Australia.
The company has the Craft certificate of the Region of Murcia, in addition to the certificates IFS Food Defense and Kosher.
The tradition of salting goes back in San Pedro del Pinatar to the Roman time and is united to the creation and development of the salinera exploitation.
There are several local families who have perpetuated this primitive way of preserving fish and currently run modern industries which, as in the case of Salazones Garre, export these exquisite products to countries around the world.
