The Barón de Benifayó Museum hosted this morning the following days entitled "The future of fishermen and artisanal fishing: approaches to diversify the sector", organized by the Catholic University San Antonio in the framework of the III International and Interdisciplinary Seminar on Fishing studies.
The Councilor for Tourism and Culture, Silvia Egea, and Vice-Dean of Tourism of the UCAM, Ginesa Martínez, have opened these presentations in which experts in the field have participated nationally and internationally.
Thus, the day began with the inaugural conference of Miquel Marti Llambrich, director of the Museum of Fishing in Palamós, which has analyzed the case of this maritime population and the diversity of activities that are carried out around the fishing maritime heritage as a tool for local development.
The morning has continued with the lectures "PESCARTES, The heritage legacy of artisanal fishing: new opportunities", with Luis Rodríguez and Ana Macarena Molina, the association of artisanal fishermen of the Natural Park Cabo de Gata-Nijar and Oceanographic of Roquetas de Mar and the talk "From fishermen to service providers: option to improve their economic income, Guerrero Coast, Mexico", by Salvador Villerías, from the Autonomous University of Guerrero in Mexico.
Iliana Villerias Alacrón of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, with the presentation "Main problems of health and social security of the fishermen in the pacific South of Mexico", and Ana Muñoz, Biologist in the fishing confraternity of San Pedro del Pinatar with a lecture on the "impact of metal mining on sediments and megaplancton of the Mar Menor".
The day ended with a debate on the future of fishermen and artisanal fishing in which all the speakers have been present, as well as representatives of other entities such as the patron of the Fishermen's Guild of San Pedro or members of cultural entities such as the municipal museum or the popular university of Mazarrón, among others.
