The City has allocated 5,000 euros this year to these grants that are awarded based on sports results obtained in sports or individual disciplines.
The Mayoress of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitación Martínez, accompanied by the Councilor for Sports, Daniel Pérez, has awarded ten individual grants, for a total value of 5,000 euros to athletes from Pinar del Rio, who have excelled in different disciplines throughout the year.
These grants are awarded for the second year in a row.
In this regard, the Mayor said that the City has made a new commitment to the sport, doubling the amount of these grants, which are estimated at 5,000 euros and this year reach 10 athletes.
He also noted that these grants and subsidies to sports clubs have been awarded competitively, according to the principles of publicity, transparency, equality, non-discrimination, effectiveness and efficiency.
Visitación Martínez has highlighted the achievements obtained nationally and internationally by young people from Pinar del Rio in different disciplines such as squash, canoeing, swimming, athletics or chess and has reiterated the City Council's commitment to continue rewarding the effort and perseverance of these athletes;
as well as to promote the sport from the base in any of its modalities.
For his part, the Councilor for Sports, Daniel Pérez, has listed the achievements of the award-winning athletes.
Highlights the results of Mohssine Mouthair, who receive a subsidy of 721 euros;
champion of Spain sub 23 in C1 2000 and C1 5,000 and silver in C1 2,000 meters in the Spanish Winter Champion of Seville.
In addition, he was seventh in the World Championship of Belarus, in July 2016, in C2 1000 meters sub 23.
The Spanish champion in sub-19 categories of squash and runner-up of Spain in absolute category, Cristina Gómez, receives 695 euros.
In addition, she has been proclaimed European champion sub 19 individual and runners-up in Europe with the U19 selection, among other achievements.
Also in canoeing, Lázaro López de Haro has received a subsidy of 607 euros.
His performance in the Trasona Spanish Championship stands out, where he was proclaimed champion of Spain under 17 in K1 200 and 500 meters, and runner-up in K1 500 in Junior category.
For its part, Irene Monreal Ezeiza, has been subsidized with 520 euros, for achieving, among other achievements, be third in the same national tournament in category C1 500 sub 17. Francisco Luengo has received 516 euros for his seventh place in the senior semifinal of the 2016 European championship of canoeing, and regional winter gold this year.
The athlete Darío Romero obtained 448 euros for his sports results in 2017, among which stand out as regional champion in 400 and 800 meters and silver in 200 meters in the absolute championship of clubs in the Region, among other merits.
Adrián García, squash player, also receives 443 euros, for his sporting merits, among which stands out his third position in the Spanish championship under 15.
The swimmer Enrique Carrasco Rivera who got a sixth place in 200 back and a fifth place in 100 meters in the championship of absolute Spain and junior of summer 2016, in addition to a fifth place in absolute category in 4x100 styles.
In addition to a third position in 50 meters back in the absolute championship of 2017 of the Community of Madrid, has been subsidized with 401 euros.
The chess player Rebeca Jiménez, who earns 382 euros, is sub 14 regional champion and absolute individual regional champion, as well as other regional and national achievements.
Finally, the canoeist Pablo Francisco Sánchez, gets 266 euros, stands out in the last year his eighth place in the K1 cadets 5,000 of the championship Young Promises of Spain.
