This is the proposal that the Fishes with Art project of the Columbares Association brings to the Marmeno area, in collaboration with the City Council and the Fishermen's Association of San Pedro del Pinatar.
What is the life of the fishermen like, what are the traditional artisanal fishing techniques of San Pedro del Pinatar, some of the fish species that fishermen catch, how are the boats that are used to fish them, marine biodiversity in the Mar Menor and The Mediterranean Sea ... These and many more are the themes and ideas in which fifth grade students can be inspired to participate in the mural contest "Artisanal fishing in San Pedro del Pinatar", an initiative that has launched the Columbares Association within the framework of the Fish with Art project, in collaboration with the City Council of San Pedro del Pinatar and the Fishermen's Association of San Pedro del Pinatar.
The contest aims to bring the youngest to artisanal fishing, highlighting the benefits of this form of fishing, which has a reduced impact on the seabed and contributes to the sustainability of fishing resources and the maintenance of an economic activity very important for the municipality.
In addition, through this initiative it is intended that the students also investigate the ecological values of the surrounding marine environment and capture them in a mural, thus promoting their artistic creativity.
The contest is aimed at all 5th grade students of public, private and public schools in the municipality of San Pedro del Pinatar, who may present a single mural per class.
The deadline for the presentation of the murals whose bases can be consulted on the websites of the City of San Pedro del Pinatar and Columbares Association - will end on April 20, 2018, at 23:59 hours.
The winners of the contest will enjoy an educational itinerary in which -recoring several points of cultural interest and fishing of San Pedro del Pinatar as the fish market or the museum of the sea- the students will be able to approach the life of the artisanal fishermen and know some of the species that inhabit our seas.
In addition, all the murals will be exhibited in the Museum of the Sea of San Pedro del Pinatar.

Pescados con Arte is an initiative of the Columbares Association and the Association of Artisanal Fishermen of the Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park (PESCARTES) to make known to the public the social, environmental, cultural and gastronomic value of the fishing captured in a craft on the Murcian-Almeria coast and promote the consumption of sustainable seafood.
Simultaneously, Pescados con arte wants to disseminate the marine reserves of fishing interest as the most effective management tools for the regeneration of fishing resources and the conservation of marine biodiversity, focusing efforts on the marine reserves of Cabo de Palos-Islas Hormigas, Cabo Tiñoso and Cabo de Gata-Níjar and Natura 2000 network areas of the project scope.
