The director general of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity, Pablo Fernández, participated today in the release of two specimens of birds, a seagull and a stilt Audouin in the Regional Park of Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar, who are already in the wild after being treated at the Center for Wildlife Recovery 'El Valle'.
Audouin's Gull three-year-old has been in the Recovery Centre for seven weeks, after being found on the beach in Mazarrón Percheles severe trauma in a wing caused by a hook, as well as symptoms of dehydration and malnutrition arising from their inability to fly.
In the center of El Valle veterinarians removed the hook and it provided him a treatment by which the animal evolved favorably and he regained full mobility of the affected wing.
On admission he was carrying the ring Seagull Scientific PVC which allows remote reading of the latter's number for later identification in a database that recorded nationally.
Stilt orphan
For its part, the copy of stilts that was two weeks old, has remained at the Centre for two months after being delivered by members of civil protection, to be found from its nest unable to survive independently.
During his stay in the Centre, the bird was installed in a suitable location for the species which was offered in a small pond of water, food consisting of mosquito larvae and mealworms, which the animal began to eat immediately and where he remained until his total development in order to live freely in their habitat.
Pablo Fernandez said it has chosen the Regional Park of Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar, "an ideal environment for its high biological value as it contains more than 200 species of birds."
Among them are several protected species such as flamingos, common tern and little tern, and the Audouin gull itself considered "vulnerable species" he said.
