The Municipality of San Pedro del Pinatar, has received the Silver Medal of Social Merit Prison in a ceremony presided by the Minister of Interior, Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba, the hall of the Ministry of Health in Madrid.
On September 24th, the feast of La Merced, is a landmark date for Prison, this time, it is a tribute to the work of the municipalities that have agreements with institutions in providing prison sentences of alternatives to imprisonment .
The Mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, José García Ruiz says "municipal cooperation is a matter of civic conscience, protected by the belief that the penalties reeducator potential benefit of the community have for offenders and the community that these people do unpaid work. "
Thanks to the agreement signed with the Government Delegation in Murcia, San Pedro has offered 72 beds occupied by people whose work has commuted the sentences under the law.
60 of these people have been cleaning and maintenance, janitorial support 10 and two computing tasks.
These works are alternative sentences to imprisonment imposed on the judges for minor offenses, especially violations of the Road Safety Act, such as speeding, driving without a license or driving with a high BAC.
