The 6,832 citizens of Norway, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, New Zealand, Paraguay, Bolivia and Peru, registered in the municipality account for 27.8 percent of the population of San Pedro del Pinatar.
The Municipality of San Pedro del Pinatar, through the Department of Citizenship, has called for the December 10 meeting with the citizens of Norway, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, New Zealand, Paraguay, Bolivia and Peru registered in the municipality and may vote in the upcoming election, under the agreements on participation in municipal elections concluded between these countries and Spain.
The City Council is sending a newsletter to the 6,832 citizens of these eight countries, representing 27.8 percent of the population of San Pedro del Pinatar, where they convened the meeting and instructed the procedure for participate in municipal elections May 22.
In order to exercise their right to vote, it is imperative that these citizens are registered on the electoral roll.
The conditions for registration on the electoral roll is that the citizen is over 18 years and is not deprived of the right to vote, who is enrolled in the municipal, have a residence permit, have legally resided in Spain for five years minimum (period to be reduced to three years for nationals of Norway) and comply with other requirements laid down by the relevant agreements.
Citizens of these countries may apply for registration on the electoral roll through the electronic platform of the National Institute of Statistics, by mail or in the municipalities.
The Electoral Census Office will forward the responses to these communications between December 1, 2010 and January 15, 2011.
