The Councillor for Equality, Carmen Honrubia, highlighted policies against gender violence taking place in the town, including the creation of a local committee for monitoring and prevention and awareness activities with different groups.
San Pedro City Council has today commemorated the Day against Gender Violence in an event which has called the "civic rebellion" against such attacks and that has held a minute's silence for the 67 women this year have been killed in such violence.
The mayor of Equality, Honrubia Carmen noted that the municipality there are 100 women at risk who need constant protection and has stressed the importance of developing and creating mechanisms in all institutions, to combat gender violence and ensure reduce these numbers.
In this regard, said that the City has recently launched a local committee against Gender Violence, composed of law enforcement, social workers and associations.
It has also pointed out that since this council are carried out several programs aimed at prevention and awareness, such as lectures and tutorials in colleges, the program of support to victims "are not alone" or "Wednesdays for me", directed women from the municipality and which promote equality guidelines seek to break the macho roles that persist in today's society.
Then, we proceeded to read the manifesto called the "courage of women to" break barriers and denounce any kind of aggression.
It also asked the complicity of all citizens to eliminate "spaces of impunity" and "silence", which stands as the closest ally of the aggressors and to protect children who suffer such violence in their homes .
After reading the manifesto, it has been a performance that recreated the rebellion of a woman to abuse and where the victims were encouraged to speak out.
In addition, it has been exposed in the council hall of the photographic exhibition "Between the two go further" in which you could see different women and men of the town Gypsies household chores.
This exhibition is the result of prevention talks to the council of Equality has developed with the Gypsy community of San Pedro del Pinatar.
