The mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Jose Garcia, took part today in the submission of the Association of Patients and Relatives of Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue of the municipality, ASENFIFA Pinatar, with the president of this new group, Ana Maria Albaladejo, and Dr. Carlos Morera, a specialist in medical hydrology.
Ana Maria Albaladejo has indicated that this association was founded with the goal of those affected by fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue in the municipality have an active social presence in the municipality.
In this sense, explained that one of the problems faced by these patients is the social ignorance of the disease and noted that since the new partnership will seek to promote activities which impact upon improving the quality of life affected.
For its part, the Mayor explained that both diseases show pictures of pain, impairment and fatigue that hinder the daily activities of patients without, so far definitive solutions are known, beyond palliative care.
However, explained that in the last year has opened a promising outlook for these patients, since it has discovered the presence of a retrovirus, called XMRV, associated with these diseases.
This retrovirus was also associated with diseases like multiple sclerosis and atypical autism was found in 98 percent of those affected by fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue.
In this regard, has indicated they do not know how it is spread, or that measure may be the cause of these syndromes, but its discovery opens a new and promising research for the sick.
Thus, Garcia has urged the scientific community to continue with this line of research that soon those affected by these diseases to have definitive treatment.
For his part, Dr. Carla Morer has focused its intervention in palliative treatment alternative to drug, such as physical exercise in hot water.
Morer explained that two years is set in the hotel Thalasia of San Pedro del Pinatar an exercise program with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue that is yielding results "very encouraging."
The doctor has said that in recent years these techniques are being developed in countries like France and Germany, proving that a program of controlled exercise in hot water relieves the pain of the sick, as water relaxes muscles and facilitates the movement compared to other sports that patients can not make or generate them more pain.
It has also indicated that this type of therapy is able to break the "circle of immobility" that many patients are under the constant pain and permanent fatigue.
According Morer, this exercise demonstrates to people that are able to do other things and improve their quality of life and mood.
The presentation concluded with the involvement of affected groups have expressed doubts about the disease and existing treatments and have urged the government to give greater coverage to those affected, both in the media in promoting palliative and lines disease research.
