The mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, José García, today visited the International Tourism Fair, Fitur 2011, which meets in Madrid to professionals in dozens of countries.
In this forum, Garcia has supported the recovery of assets, with actions such as rehabilitation and spa Floridablanca Benifayó Baron Palace, as a primary factor to break the seasonality of the sun and beach tourism.
Also, Garcia explained that San Pedro del Pinatar also offers a wide range of sports, which will be soon increased and improved with the implementation of water sports center, located on the shores of the Mar Menor, and the Ice Palace, a Olympic-sized flag.
The mayor pointed out that, in recent years have achieved high levels of quality in tourism services in the county, placing it among the most competitive at the regional level, thanks to a joint commitment of the City and the Commonwealth Tourism del Mar Menor, which has aimed to place the salt lake between major destinations.
In this sense, Garcia has said the mud of Mar Menor, the natural park of Las Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar and 14 miles of beach, between the Mediterranean and the Mar Menor, distinguished, and to San Pedro del Pinatar as a unique destination in the region.
But Garcia has stressed the need to continue working to break the seasonality that carries with it the sun and beach tourism.
Therefore, the City Council works to add value to the cultural heritage of the municipality, with actions such as retrieving the Roman site of Raya, funded last year by the Commonwealth, or rehabilitation Benifayó Baron Palace, a unique building nineteenth century, known as the Russian House, which has been converted to house the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography of San Pedro.
The latest initiative in this regard was the statement of Floridablanca Spa as a Cultural, ensuring continuity on the shores of Mar Menor.
In this regard, Garcia explained that in the coming months will be a process of rehabilitation of the centennial building to become the Sea Museum, which collect and disclose the fishing traditions of the municipality.
Another line of tourism development in the City is working sport so it has boosted the Sports City, which will next year with an ice palace where he held the Under 20 World Cup ice hockey.
Regarding this facility, the mayor pointed out that San Pedro del Pinatar is the only European city where you can enjoy water sports and ice a few miles away.
This offer is completed by the Marine Activities Centre, a facility for school sports, sailing, canoeing and windsurfing, which will become operational in the coming months.
Garcia recalls that the flagship product of San Pedro del Pinatar is and will always be the sun, the beaches and two seas, but the goal of the council is to provide these resources to add cultural and leisure activities that make them attractive throughout the year.
