San Pedro del Pinatar celebrates today the feast more embedded in the municipality marmenorense, a procession by land and sea in which local fishermen, joined by thousands of residents and visitors move to their patron saint, the Virgen del Carmen, from San Pedro del to Pinatar Lo Pagan.
The celebration was declared of Regional Tourist Interest since 1965, started at 7:00 am with a target by the Band Council for the streets of San Pedro del Pinatar.
The Constitution Square has hosted an hour later a massive Mass in honor of the Virgen del Carmen, where fishermen, singing the Salve Marinera, have carried in procession to the throne.
The procession, consisting of thousands of faithful, has toured the town, from San Pedro to Lo Pagán, accompanied by the municipal band.
The regional president, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, the mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitation Martinez, president of the Fishermen's Association, José Luis Pérez and the president of the association of the Virgen del Carmen, Charo Garcia presided over the procession accompanied by other local and regional authorities.
Moreover, the image of the Virgin has stopped at the altars that adorned the route each year, and his arrival in Lo Pagán, there has been a release of white doves, prior to the traditional "tronaera," a thunderous fireworks announcing the input of the Madonna in the Port of Lo Pagan.
New Fisherman's boat has been commissioned to ship this year, the image of the patron in his tour of the Mar Menor, escorted by dozens of boats, fishing and recreation, decorated for the occasion and packed with the faithful who have dropped hundreds of carnations in memory of deceased seamen.
After the procession Marinera, at 13:00, the Virgin landed in the fish market, where they held a mass campaign, before the image was transferred to the Church of Our Lady of Carmen in Lo Pagan.
The feast of the Virgen del Carmen, celebrated in the town since 1792, ended this morning when the procession is held back to San Pedro del Pinatar, from midnight.
