San Pedro held the Third Conference of Archaeology and Heritage (03/03/2012)

The councilman of Culture, Silvia Egea, opened yesterday these days that include presentations on the history of the toy, the discovery of the Sima de las Palomas and underwater archaeological heritage of San Javier.

The House of Culture this weekend hosts the Third Conference of Heritage and Archaeology, the Department of Culture recover after a decade and which addresses the underwater archeology, the history of the toy and the discovery of the Sima de las Palomas 20 years later.

The program started last night with a presentation on the history of toys, by Raimundo Paya Molto, a descendant of the company Paya Hermanos Ibi (Alicante), which has donated a large collection of the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography of San Javier.

Paya explained how in 1893 his grandfather, tinsmith by trade, began to develop the toy industry in the Alicante town of Ibi and how it evolves and the types of toys throughout the first half of the twentieth century, from the reproduction of household small kitchen and horse-drawn carts to racing cars.

Furthermore, the rapporteur insisted through toys called evolution of society and referred to the differences of toys for children of different social classes, as well as to those living in an urban or rural.

Followed the presentation on the paleoanthropological discovery of the Sima de las Palomas, by the geographer Juan Carlos Blanco Gago, who during the summer of 1991 directed the work of prospecting in the caves of Cabezo Gordo, where located more than 15 points vertebrate fossils from different periods, being the most important point of the Sima de las Palomas where human remains were found.

White explained the features of this chasm of more than 20 meters deep where only the first three meters have been found human fossils belonging to three different individuals, a child, a man and a woman.

These remains are those of Neanderthals and are older than 30,000 years, although the origin of the chasm is much earlier, since in the bottom, about 20 meters deep, they found remains of a panther 150,000 years ago.

Since 1994 a team of scientists and researchers from the University of Murcia perform work in the pit, where they have come to three meters deep, the point where Juan Carlos Blanco found the first rest over 20 years.

The importance paleontropológica the Sima de Las Palomas has been verified throughout these years of research, mainly by the discovery of a female Neanderthal skeleton nearly complete.

The geographer said it will take another 60 years to finish studying the 20 meter depth of this cave in the Cabezo Gordo.

Today the conference will continue with the paper "Underwater Archaeological Heritage in San Javier," by Rocio Castillo, the area of ​​the Museum of Underwater Archaeology ARQUA, and John Pinedo, director of archaeological excavations at the site of the stripe and prosprección submarine held in Punta Algae.

Rocio Castillo is one of the managers of the Draft Charter Update Archaeological Region of Murcia and since 1988 has participated in various national and international research underwater archeology, and in other educational activities and scientific dissemination.

For his part, Juan Pinedo developed archaeological investigations at sea for over 20 years.

Among the works he has directed include performances Mazarrón vessels (1989-1995), the enlargement of the tailings basin (1997-2002), and currently directs research in the Phoenician settlement of Lower Bell (2007 - 2012)

The presentation will begin at 21:00 pm in the auditorium of the Casa de la Cultura.
