Center director Ocenaográfico of Murcia, José María Bellido, accompanied by the mayor of San Javier, Martinez Visitation and the Councillor for Education, Guadalupe Garcia, has today delivered the Spanish Southeast topobatimétricos maps to members of the educational community in the municipality.
Bellido explained that the origin of these maps is a scientific research funds bathymetric mapping of the entire Spanish coast.
It has also highlighted that through the publication of these maps, which are accompanied with a training manual, is to further the scientific outreach IEO and generate "excitement and curiosity" about oceanography among students for "learn to see what lies beyond the beach."
The director of the Oceanographic Centre of Murcia has highlighted the peculiarities of this area of ​​the peninsular coastline, since it contrasts the presence of a broad platform, where the depth is over 200 meters, with a fault zone and the abyssal plain, which reaches 1,500 meters deep.
For its part, the Mayor thanked the IEO, based in Murcia is located in Lo Pagan, his involvement in municipal activities as working with the City on various issues of importance to the locality and the preservation of beaches, fishing tourism, and training, through initiatives like this.
