The City of San Javier will launch a campaign to supermarkets and department stores to donate these food surpluses in good condition to the municipality charities.
The full City Council of San Javier yesterday approved, unanimously, the joint motion filed by UPyD and initiatives PP on food donation.
This motion raises the launch of a campaign to promote the municipality supermarket food donation to the municipality charities working with groups at risk of social exclusion, such as Caritas, Red Cross, Love for Love and The Samaritan.
This initiative includes the signing of cooperation agreements, under which producers and distributors adhere Township will donate food to these associations.
For its part, the City created the distinctive "Corporate Sponsor", that expose associates in its stores to inform customers about this activity.
Also, the City Council website will publish the list of collaborators, both the donor of food such as solidarity associations participating in the distribution thereof.
Currently, the above partnerships are contributing to the support of many families pinatarenses, which provide food, clothing and other staples.
Thus, the Food Bank of the Region of Murcia has endowed in 2012, Caritas associations, The Red Cross and Samaritan, with 65,500 pounds of food.
Meanwhile, the association love for love, so far catered to hundreds of families through donations received by citizens, has recently been integrated into the distribution network of the Food Bank.
Meanwhile, the council is working with these charities in the collection and transfer paper products from the Food Bank at its headquarters in Murcia and Cartagena to the municipality.
These actions are in addition to the social support of the City Council itself, offered from social services to families at risk of social exclusion, which are engaged in the procurement of medicines and other essential goods such as vaccines, dentures, eyeglasses, diapers or baby milk.
The objective of this new campaign is to enhance and improve care for residents of the municipality at risk of poverty, through donations of surplus foods safe to producers or distribution centers withdrawn from sale for different reasons.
