Agents Service Nature Protection (SEPRONA) Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia, in collaboration with Fisheries Service inspectors of the autonomous region, have proceeded to confiscate, near the fishing village of San Javier out of a total of 113 kilos of octopus ("Octopus Vulgaris") with an average weight of less than 1 kilo, the minimum for capture and marketing, according to rules in the matter.
In addition, the octopus involved lacked the required documentation to accompany fish species in the first sale.
The incident took place after SEPRONA agents who were conducting the surveillance and prevention of illegal fishing activities, stopped a van to the output of said fishing port and verify how carrying several large tubs filled with copies of octopus, some of them still alive.
After confirming the lack of documentation of the animals and their small size, the agents proceeded to release into the waters of the port itself specimens still alive, and the other involved the merchandise, which has been deposited in the fish market units San Javier.
The perpetrator turned out to be the owner of a local restaurant who told agents he had just bought the octopus directly responsible for a fishing vessel without having gone before, as is required by the market, and that intended to serve in their establishment.
The octopus, upon declaration of suitability for consumption by an inspector of the Ministry of Health, will be delivered to various welfare centers in the Region of Murcia.
The facts constituting the administrative offense legislation sea fishing, have been reported to the Directorate General of Livestock and Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia.
