Citizen Participation in the Construction of Europe 20 years later, is the subject of this conference to be held from 27 to 31 May in San Pedro del Pinatar and aim to delve into the rights and policies developed by the European Union since its foundation.
The mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitation Martinez and the Councillor for Citizen Participation, Silvia Egea, today presented the Sixth Conference of Citizen Participation, to be held from 27 to 31 May and will try that this year "Citizen Participation Construction in Europe 20 years later. "
Visitation Martinez pointed out as factors for the development of this conference the important social role of associations in the municipality, which currently has over 150 registered associations, the presence of European citizens from other countries settled in San Pedro del Pinatar, accounting and 10% of the population, and the holding in 2013 the European Year of Citizens and the twentieth anniversary of the signing of the Maastricht Treaty establishing the European Union.
So, the mayor stressed the need to foster locally, debates and forums to reflect on the progress of the European Union and the future that it faces.
He added that the main objectives of this conference are to encourage reflection on the fundamental rights of European citizens, create opportunities for citizen participation, encourage debate on Europe in different groups, bringing Europe closer to the participants, explaining to elementary students do European citizenship entails, publicize European volunteering and the European digital information sources in the field of training and employment.
ZOOM IN EUROPE TO CITIZENS OF ALL AGES
Meanwhile, Egea has stressed that this year the program wants to reach all citizens, so will develop activities aimed at different segments of the population such as children, young and old.
Thus, the program will begin on Monday May 27 with the conference "I, European citizen" by the director general of the European Union and Foreign Affairs of the Autonomous Community, Carmen Sandoval, followed by the conference "Spain in Europe" , Cayuela Salvador Sánchez, a researcher at the Jean Monnet Chair at the University of Murcia.
Also on May 27, the holder of the Jean Monnet Chair, Klaus Shriewer, will lecture on European citizenship, which will address policies and European rights, focusing on the fisheries sector.
The conference will continue on 28 and 29 May with a program aimed at students from eight primary schools in the municipality in which they will give a talk on the basics of the construction of the European Union, will screen the video "We are Europe "and visit the bus" Mobile Europe ", framed in the" European Citizen I "in the general direction of the EU, and which explains various projects undertaken by municipalities in the region and funded by the EU, two of them in San Pedro del Pinatar.
On May 30, the program will focus on youth, with a talk on EU rights, a conference on digital information sources such as the EURES network, aimed, among other services, to bring the employment opportunities offered by Europe, and close the day with a discussion on European volunteering.
The conference will close on Friday, May 31, at 20:30 am with the opening of the painting exhibition "Mediterranean Light", will be presented in the classroom Cajamurcia cultural, and in which local artist Angeles Lopez shows different enclaves of the Mediterranean.
The Sixth Conference on Citizenship has been organized by the city of San Pedro del Pinatar in collaboration with the University of Murcia, the EU General address of the Autonomous Community of Murcia, and the Foundation Cajamurcia.
