Fishing Councilman of San Pedro del Pinatar, José Guillermo García, announced today that the drop in temperatures recorded in the past two weeks has caused a significant amount of gold catch, which is estimated at more than 17.7 tons.
The mayor also explained that the showers of the last few days have caused banks of the lagoon golden move, facilitating fishing for this species, highly valued in the cuisine of the area for its quality and distinctive flavor.
Likewise, Garcia stressed the economic importance of the fisheries sector and especially the golden campaign in which fishing 40 fishing companies and more than 100 workers, including fishermen, shippers, employees of the brotherhood, and fishmongers, among others .
For its part, the pattern of the Confraternity of San Pedro del Pinatar, Juan Pablo Martinez, indicated that although the golden fishing throughout the year, the campaign intensifies from mid-October until the second half of November, when which are initiated and chirretes eel catches.
The pattern also noted that the gold represents 35% of total catches are made in the Mar Menor and has estimated the total turnover this year at 1,300,721 kilograms of fish, among which are species such as anchovy , sardine, menhaden, mackerel, sea bream, sea bass, shrimp and eel, among others.
