The "Edukalo" program, which is inserted in the municipal plan Truancy Prevention and Control, aims to improve the academic performance of this group and educate families about the importance of their stay in the education system.

The mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitacion Martinez, President of the Autonomous Federation of Roma Associations (BLAST) in Murcia, Ramón Fernández, today signed a collaboration agreement for the development of mentoring program of Roma students "Edukalo" .

Under this agreement, which is included in the measures of Municipal Plan for Prevention and Control of Absenteeism, a socio-educational workshop will be held with a total of 20 Roma children, aimed at improving their academic performance.

This workshop, which will feature a total of four hours per week until the end of the current school year, will be supervised by a qualified volunteer and a gypsy mediator acts as an intermediary with schools and families to ensure proper insertion of these school students.

The workshop will be held in downtown Emerging Arts and Leisure will also have students with loan from the Department of Education school supplies so they can perform their duties in good condition.

The mayor has stressed the importance of ensuring regular school attendance of all children pinatarenses and in this regard, said that this is the aim of the various municipal activities for the prevention and control of absenteeism.

It also noted that the program Edukalo act directly with one of the groups most affected by absenteeism, such as Roma students through the collaboration of the FAGA and City Hall.

For his part, the president has said that FAGA working primarily in education from the federation, aware of its importance for the development of the Roma people.

In addition, he stressed that the program will also work through the mediator FAGA in the family, awareness and seeking greater involvement of parents in the educational process of their children.

This program is started after the success of the workshop that FAGA tutoring, in collaboration with the Department of Education, launched during the month of August with 25 students from 7 to 12 years.
