The Municipal Emergency Service San Pedro del Pinatar has incorporated this summer beaches device rescue dog rescue pilot and pioneering initiative in the national coastline.
This is a team composed of a rescuer and newfoundland dog breed working in pair, and bind on alternate days to the surveillance, on the beaches of the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean.
This dog is capable of towing up to 1,500 kilos in the water and swim an average of five miles without stopping, characteristics that make it a perfect match for multiple rescues both swim and boat.
Councilman Civil Protection, Pedro Luis Vera, explained that this experience is born of the collaboration between the ED and the rescue group Mare Nostrum, which has developed several drills with dogs in the area.
The objective of this initiative is to encourage rescue swimmers on issues and increase prevention of incidents at beaches and rescue possibilities, he added.
This initiative was developed as a pilot program this year in order to get experience in different scenarios to assess the true value of this rescue system on the beaches of the town, checking their adaptation to the aquatic environment of the area and the features of this coast concluded the mayor.
The surveillance operation in summer beaches with a total of 36 aid workers in eight beaches of the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean, working from 1 July to 15 September.
