The Centre for Tourism Initiatives in San Pedro del Pinatar hosted last night Friday, October 17, the opening of the exhibition of the Red Cross in the town, an act which also honored people who have contributed to the implementation and growth of this institution throughout his 44 years in the town.
The mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitacion Martinez, president of the county Red Cross Mar Menor, Fernando Carrasco, and regional vice president of the Spanish Red Cross, Juan Luis Chillón, inaugurated the exhibition, which is part of the activities commemorating the 150th anniversary the foundation of this global partnership.
During the ceremony, commemorative diplomas were awarded to all those who from the early 70s have contributed with their altruistic and charitable work, to consolidate the work of Red Cross and its important social role in San Pedro del Pinatar.
In this sense, the mayor, Visitacion Martinez, recalled some of the most outstanding work of Red Cross in San Pedro for 44 years, as their involvement in the 1987 floods, rescue and surveillance beaches, formative work on first aid and prevention, as well as his more caring side as the food bank.
Thus, Red Cross acknowledged the work of former presidents, directors, employees, volunteers and supporters as Joaquín Mellado, Silverio Avilés, Carmiña García, Carmen Llorens, Mari Carmen Soler, Pilar de la Osa, Vicente Salas, Juan Manuel Dodge, Manuel Carrillo, Francisco Javier Gómez, Pedro José Muñoz, Carlos Luis Ramirez, Jose Miguel Hernandez, Angel Otto, Miguel Hernández, Joaquín Martínez, Antonio Tárraga, José Hilario López and Tomás Albaladejo Innocent.
An old couch Red Cross uniforms from different eras, medals and badges, documents, records and old passport, photographs and newspaper clippings, are some of the objects you can see in the exhibition commemorating the partnership installed at the Center Tourist Initiative until November 23.
