The mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitacion Martinez, and the delegate of the Regional Federation of Roma (BURST) in Murcia, Juan Garcia Santiago, today signed two agreements for the development of educational support to this group through the departments of Education and Volunteering.
Under these agreements, the plan Edukaló measures included in the municipal Plan for Prevention and Control of Absenteeism (PAE), through a mediator that acts directly with schools and families, a socio-educational workshops six hours per week with a total of 20 Roma children.
For the development of these workshops, which develop in the Leisure and Emerging Arts, FAGA will collaborate Volunteer Local Plan.
Thus, these activities will be tutored by qualified volunteers and the mediator.
The mayor stressed the importance of ensuring regular school attendance of all children of the town and especially Roma children, a group hard hit by school failure and truancy.
For his part, the representative of FAGA, Juan Garcia Santiago, thanked the support of the City Council in this initiative, as last year and gave good results and stressed that education is one of the pillars on which this association works to match in equality.
At the signing ceremony were also attended by members of FAGA who created this project and promoted its launch in cities like Alicante and Elche, on the premise of promoting ethnic identity of Roma students as a means to enhance their self-esteem, encouraging obtain better academic results, thus contributing to the reduction of truancy.
