The Minister of Development, Public Works and Planning, Francisco Barnabas, accompanied by the mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitation Martinez, made today the cornerstone of the redevelopment of the Port of Lo Pagan, which will, among other improvements , extension 138 of the berths available, 88 for nautical sports activities and the remaining 50 for fishing boats.
Barnabas stressed that this action requested by the Yacht Club de Lo Pagán, "is an extension of nautical sports facility motivated by the need to increase the number of berths and contribute to the removal of irregular anchorage of vessels that located in the vicinity of the sport dock, currently occupying an area of ​​approximately 80,000 square meters and endangering both the quality of the waters and the seabed ".
"At the same time, the works can help make the use of port facilities between the fishing dock and nautical-sports, dock while increase and improve operating conditions and safety first," explained the Minister of Development .
The Minister stressed the importance that the marine industry has in the region of Murcia, "especially equipped for its climate and its two seas to practice all kinds of nautical activities and sports", and highlighted the Government's willingness " to influence these aspects in order to realize the full potential that we have. The works are budgeted at 1.2 million euros, and have a lead time of eight months.
They consist, among other interventions, recovery of drafts by dredging;
the construction of an inner dock, which will use a fishing inside and nautical sports on its outside side and an outer dock;
installation on the pontoons of separate platforms and docks waiting and loading and unloading;
execution services pontoons and mooring and anchoring elements.
More than 6,200 moorings
The Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia manages 17 ports, of which 5 have fishing and pleasure harbors and only the remaining 12 sports, with a total supply of 5,528 moorings sports.
In addition, the Port of Cartagena, under the Central Government, has 3 sports docks, with an offer of 676 moorings, bringing the total supply of sport moorings in the Autonomous Community is, therefore, to 6,204 points.
The Mar Menor has 10 ports, of which 9 are sports and only marina and fishing Lo Pagan, with an offer of 3,505 moorings, which represents 56 percent of total supply.
The Mediterranean Sea, meanwhile, has 8 ports, of which 3 are sporty, 4 fishing-sport (San Pedro del Pinatar, Cabo de Palos, Mazarrón and Aguilas) and Cartagena of general interest with a bid of 2,699 moorings, representing 44 percent of total supply.
