The Health Center San Pedro del Pinatar last week hosted a lecture entitled "Consequences of alcohol consumption in pregnancy: before, during and after" offered by Natividad Sanchez Goya matron translator Riad Amina Benlarzhal.
In this talk the consequences of drug or alcohol abuse were addressed during pregnancy and lactation, focusing on issues such as fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS).
The midwife said that any intake of alcohol can affect the health and development of the fetus, causing low birth weight, impaired motor skills and coordination, problems with attention, memory and learning difficulties, delayed speech and language, heart problems, delayed growth and development or epilepsy, among other pathologies.
This action, organized by the Department of Social Services, falls within the scope of the Municipal Community Plan for the Prevention of Drug Addiction, including preventive and training activities in various groups.
