The Regional Park of the Salinas of San Pedro del Pinatar'Semana celebrates the Posidonia' (15/07/2015)

The Ministry of Water, Agriculture and Environment has organized various activities in the Regional Park of Salinas and Arenales of San Pedro del Pinatar, on the occasion of the 'Posidonia Week', aimed at families.

The aim is to raise awareness of the importance of conservation of this native plant of the Mediterranean, both inside and outside the sea.

Until July 19, from 9:00 to 15 hours, will take place at the Visitor Center 'Las Salinas' an activity called 'Posigames' to enjoy games of life and learn to develop them using marine plant remains oceanic Posidonia.

A special event entitled 'Treasures natural beach' in a tent located on the beach of the demolished tower, to discover the importance of seagrass meadows is celebrated today.

The next Saturday, July 18th, will conduct a guided bike route called 'Pedaling to Punta Seaweed' from 9:30 to 12:00 hours, with a distance of nine kilometers, low difficulty, which ends in one of the wildest beaches in the region.

The recommended minimum age to participate is eight years.

Oceanic Posidonia

In the Region of Murcia are some of the best Mediterranean seagrass meadows, which provide shelter, food and areas for egg laying for many species of molluscs and fish.

More than a thousand species of animals are related to these meadows.

As plants produce lots of oxygen and fix CO2, which contributes to reducing the greenhouse effect.

They are fundamental to capture sand and other particles in suspension and therefore its presence indicates that the water is clean and the beaches are natural sand.

Plant mountains that form on the shores of the beaches, called wrack, slow erosion of the waves on the coast.

Also are a pantry for small marine animals, which in turn provide food for protected bird species.

In the Regional Park of Salinas and Arenales of San Pedro del Pinatar conservation of plant debris oceanic Posidonia is very important for the conservation of beaches.

Therefore, the Administration, during the summer season, only removes arribazones in specific areas, where not affected the beach.
