The association, in collaboration with the Department of Citizen Participation, expands its services with an activity aimed at promoting a healthy leisure time between its users and to create a space of respite.
The mayor of San Javier, Visitation Martinez, the Councillor for Citizen Participation, Fuensanta Garcia, and the president of the Association of Families and Persons with Mental Illness del Mar Menor (AFEM), Juana Maria Romero, today attended the first day of the "Social Club", a new service launched by this group in collaboration with the council.
This program, which has a municipal grant of 2,500 euros, is aimed at promoting a healthy leisure time between thirty AFEM users, while creating a space for respite care, which completes the workshops and activities the association develops in the day center.
So, every Saturday, until next December, AFEM users perform various sporting, cultural and leisure activities, such as making contact with different sports, hiking, visits to the town beaches and the natural park of Salinas and Arenales of San Pedro, as well as trips to exhibitions and cultural centers of the city.
The mayor, Visitation Martinez, stressed the important work done by AFEM and reiterated the commitment of the City of collaboration with this group, through initiatives such as the "social club", which besides creating a new living space for users association, extends the scope of respite necessary for regular caregivers of these patients.
Juana Maria Romero recalled that AFEM works for over seven years for the prevention, treatment and inclusion of people with mental illness, developing extensive work throughout the region, which highlights the implementation of the Centre three years ago Day that welcomes people with various diseases, and many awareness activities aimed at the normalization and social integration of these patients.
