The Minister of Public Works and Infrastructures, Francisco Barnabas, announced today after a meeting with President of the Federation of Aquaculture in the Region of Murcia, Juan Manuel Aguirre, the port of San Pedro del Pinatar sports have a new installation Waste treatment activity derived from fish farms.
Barnabas said his department "maintains a line of action of continuous improvement of ports, and the proof is that San Pedro will see improved their dependencies with the construction of an area for the deposit of waste generated in the activity aquaculture in this port, for processing by duly authorized companies later ".
The project, to be funded by the operating companies in the port, including the construction of a refrigerated ship, about 30 square meters, as well as other types of containers for storage of plastics, among others.
The Minister Francisco Barnabas said: "The aquaculture sector is in full expansion, representing an increase of waste and by-products, which leads us to support new facilities and techniques on the use of resources, and minimization at source the main waste generated by aquaculture ".
In this regard, the regional official said the aquaculture sector "is strategic for the Region of Murcia, generating over 350 direct jobs and almost 80 million per year in our community, which stands as the first producer of seabream and seabass aquaculture per kilometer of coastline in Spain ".
The marina is an inner basin of the port of San Pedro del Pinatar located in the northwest corner, next to Las Salinas, which, together with the weirs (via natural exchange of water between the Mediterranean Sea and the Mar Menor) constitute the Salinas Regional Park and Arenales of the municipality.
