The Edukaló program, established for three courses in San Pedro del Pinatar, including the figure of a gypsy mediator and a program of socio-educational workshops.
The mayor of San Javier, Visitation Martinez, delegate of the Regional Federation of Roma (FAGA) in Murcia, Juan Garcia Santiago, today signed a collaboration agreement for the development of educational support program Edukaló in collaboration with the departments of Education and Volunteering.
Under this agreement, the Edukaló plan is included in the municipal action Plan for Prevention and Control of Absenteeism (PAE), through a mediator who works directly with the centers and the socio-educational workshops and six families weekly hours with a total of 20 Roma children.
For the development of these workshops, which develop in the Leisure and Emerging Arts, FAGA has the support of local volunteer plan.
Thus, these activities are tutored by qualified volunteers and the mediator.
The mayor pointed out that the common objective of this initiative is to ensure the continuity of the students in their studies and prevent truancy situations, approaching them the benefits of education, while a correct and positive knowledge of Roma culture is promoted .
For its part, the delegate of FAGA, Juan Garcia Santiago, thanked the support of the City and the educational community in this initiative, which is already yielding good results among this group and noted that this course will intensify the workshops within centers.
At the signing ceremony were also attended by members of FAGA who have created this project and urged its implementation
in cities like Alicante or Elche, with the premise of promoting ethnic identity of Roma students as a way to improve self-esteem, encouraging obtain better academic results and thus contributing to the reduction of truancy.
