Edukalo in San Pedro del Pinatar, has begun its Christmas Workshop, twenty children all Roma are integrated in a year edukalo where the school reinforcement and motivation in order to improve their academic performance work.
This program is integrated into the plan of Municipal absenteeism, with the city of San Pedro del Pinatar.
WHAT IS EDUKALĂ“?
Edukaló is a comprehensive program specifically created and developed by FAGA to prevent truancy, improving the educational process and improving the academic performance of Roma students.
Currently the program is implemented in schools in primary and secondary schools of the city of Alicante, Elche and San Pedro del Pinatar.
The program has been brewing for six years.
In all this time, there have been many schools and other educational agents who participated and participate actively in its construction through their experiences and recommendations.
Today, Edukaló is a mature program, ready to be extrapolated in the socio-educational environment of other parts of the province of Alicante and beyond.
New approach: We start with a positive vision of the Roma leads us to value and respect their peculiarities, weaknesses and strengths, culture and idiosyncrasy, to define our strategies and designing our activities.
And this, always in connection and harmony with reality set in multicultural neighborhoods and schools of our city.
New objectives: We aim than to prevent and correct possible situations of absenteeism in one degree or another, help students on their way to secondary education, and even after this, that is, to achieve academic success
New strategies: We work with highly attractive activities with a significant multiplier and transverse impact on students, families, schools and neighborhoods.
The work is done continuously throughout the year, with the help of educational agent, new figure relieving the previous school mediator and established as the core of our strategy.
In response to those children who regularly attend school, their mission will be to train and strengthen communities of students and families to present them as positive and accessible to other students and families concerning, creating a pull effect, through word of mouth.
What is an education agent?
The educational agent is a professional who articulates all Edukaló activity in the socio-educational program.
From this figure FAGA enabled the school to receive it and use as an internal resource, becoming an aid to all those involved in school: students, family, educator, psychologist, social worker, AMPA ...
The educational agent meets adequate training to respond to the needs solvency of the school, and while a person close to families and students for their ties to the neighborhood and the Roma, allowing support of all its work prevention in a strong relationship of trust that will seek to strengthen and consolidate with the passage of time.
The educational agent is intended to provide coverage in areas where it is deemed necessary for the school board, to help where needed.
It will also be responsible for coordinating with the centers assigned by the organization and implementation of activities related to Edukaló program and its interconnection with other activities described from each school.
FUNCTIONS AND TASKS assumable
• Tutoring students and school support.
• Workshops and extracurricular activities with students.

• Workshops with mothers.
The workshops for mothers deal with very different issues: health, social skills, home economics, education ...
• Support and encouragement for school AMPAS.
• Support the management team and families in scholarships and tuition period.
• Family mediation.
• Mediation in conflict resolution of socio-educational order.
• Intervention in cases of absenteeism.
• school guidance and support to high school.
• Collaboration and support for school programs.
• Promotion of knowledge and respect for gypsy culture, through the provision of teaching units Gypsy history and culture.
• Training teachers.
These are broadly our work, which is held in Alicante, Elche, Elda and Murcia.
