The Ministry of Public Works and Infrastructure has awarded the drafting of the strategy of Integrated Management of the Mar Menor and its surroundings instrument to identify the problems of the lagoon and propose action plans and measures to develop in the Mar Menor.
The contractor is Atlantis Environment SL and amounting to 47,499 euros.
This instrument is part of the Integrated Territorial Investment (ITI) of the Mar Menor and its environment in order to enhance protection and enhancement and have an investment of 45 million euros.
Its development will be following the recommendation of the European Parliament and the EU Council of 30 May 2002 on the implementation of Integrated Coastal Zone Management in Europe, and the protocol ratified by the Government of Spain concerning Management Integrated Coastal Areas of the Mediterranean.
In addition, it embodies the protocol between the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment and the Community 2013 for an integrated management of the Mar Menor.
The Minister of Public Works and Infrastructures, Francisco Barnabas, said this award during a meeting with the mayor of San Javier, Visitation Martinez, and members of his government team, as San Pedro del Pinatar is one of the coastal municipalities that collaborate in the ITI del Mar Menor.
The formulation of the strategy of Integrated Management of Mar Menor and the environment will take place in six stages and within four months for the delivery of the document is expected.
The first two phases will focus on the search and review of the work done previously related to the evolution and status of the Mar Menor and the characterization of the lagoon and interpreting the study area as a socioecosistema services environment.
Then the conflicts and opportunities in the Mar Menor and its environment will be identified.
Strategic diagnosis to define a Decalogue management, including public policies aimed at Mar Menor and its environment, the regulations, the influential public and private institutions, instruments for institutional coordination and cooperation and the strategic and operational tools will also be developed planning and management.
In this phase also it includes public engagement, education for sustainability, information for planning and management and fixation of economic resources for coastal and marine management.
The drafting of the project will continue with the development of the strategy, establishing goals and strategic objectives.
To this end, plans, projects and programs to solve the problems and risks detected and regulate the MSP, the monitoring indicators and the bodies responsible for their maintenance, and the proposals to achieve the necessary coordination will be defined interadministrative and public participation in both the management and the evaluation and processing of projects seeking to develop in the Mar Menor.
In the last stage the guidelines for the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Strategy will be collected.
It is to monitor the implementation and execution of plans and projects, with analysis of their compliance and results, make an annual report of coastal management Mar Menor, where you collect the state of development projects , and get sufficient financial resources to fund the implementation.
