Cerdá highlights the science on the Mar Menor to contribute to the sustainable management of the lagoon (02/02/2009)

Cerdá visit the Regional Park of Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar on the occasion of World Wetlands Day

The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, presented today at the Visitors Center 'Las Salinas' of San Pedro del Pinatar several studies conducted by the Cluster Foundation, an agency attached to the Ministry of Agriculture and Water for the protection and conservation del Mar Menor.

Water balance and areas of influence of the Mar Menor

Among the papers presented highlighted the Water Balance of the Mar Menor and the study on the influence of the Sierra Minera in the Mar Menor.

The first, led by the Euro-Mediterranean Water Institute, analyzes in depth the flows involved in the lagoon in order to "anticipate changes in the Mar Menor and to take serious and rigorous," said Cerda.

The second study was conducted by the University of Murcia and seeks the identification and characterization of mining influence areas of Campo de Cartagena and the Mar Menor.

Also, there have been other work done by the Cluster Foundation as the Guide Basin Natural Landscapes of the Mar Menor, a CD on the I Seminar Mar Menor and Natural Areas of their environment, and a poster illustrated with unique marine species that inhabit the lagoon.

Visit the Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro

The Minister of Agriculture and Water also visited the Regional Park of Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar which confirmed the healthy state of wetlands in San Pedro, as well as birds and species that inhabit it, on the occasion of World Day Wetlands to be held today.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Water is carrying out since last Thursday, 29 as part of this celebration, various activities in natural areas in the Region of Murcia as the Regional Park of Salinas de San Pedro and Calblanque Regional Park and as in the protected areas of Ajauque and Rambla Salada.
